Octo VarioS 6 Water Pump
The Reef Octopus VarioS lift pump has a detachable control module, high performance ceramic shaft and screw bearing to reduce wear and the latest variable speed flow technology for refined control, improved performance, energy efficiency and safer operation.
Unlike the vast majority of circulators that use alternating current (AC), the VarioS pump has a number of important advantages over traditional AC pumps, namely higher energy efficiency, safer operation at a working voltage of 36V and in particular the variable speed control to adjust the ideal mix of air and water flow in the skimmer. DC pumps have several important advantages over traditional AC pumps. In particular, you can control the engine speed and thus electronically control the water flow. DC pumps are also more efficient than AC pumps and produce less heat per volume of flow.
REFINED CONTROL
In addition to allowing the pump to run at 5 different speeds, which is quite normal for a DC pump, the new VarioS controller takes the pump to a new level with: A float switch connection, which allows you to connect a float switch (included in the box) to the controller. This is an added security feature that allows you to turn off the skimmer pump when your sump is full or turn off your water pump when your sump water has reached a high or low level. In total you do not need another module or controller to add a float switch to your system.
Two different pause / feed modes that turn the pump off at 15 or 60 minute intervals. These are useful when feeding the tank or performing regular maintenance such as a water change.
And the best feature of the VarioS controller is … a 0-10v input that allows an external controller like the APEX from Neptune System or Reef Angel to take over the pump and tell you what to do. In this mode, the new VarioS controller becomes an interface between the system controller and the pump, allowing you to create complex programs using the system language of your system controller. This is unprecedented controllability on a skimmer or water pump. Essentially, you can use your system controller as your DC pump controller!
Includes: VarioS-6 pump, controller, float switch, power supply, 1 ” outlet and inlet for connection to PVC pipes, versatile stepped barb outlet for flexible hoses and protective inlet screen.
The VarioS pump has a really slow start with the pump slowly ramping up from zero RPM to the full preset speed over a period of approximately 10 seconds.
The pump and controller are connected via a waterproof 3-wire connection. The detachable controller provides a simple waterproof connection. The cochlea can rotate to change the output direction of the pump in 90 degree intervals, meaning users can dispense water vertically (up or down) as well as horizontally.
