The Pacific cleaner shrimp (Lysmata amboinensis) is a shrimp from the Hippolytida family.
The species is found in the tropical and subtropical parts of the Pacific and Indian Oceans, and in the Red Sea. The species feeds on parasites on fish, for which it is often kept in aquariums as a cleaning crew. The shrimp grows up to eight inches long. He is a hermaphrodite and lives in pairs. An adult animal can reproduce sexually as both male and female, but begins life as a male. However, the species cannot fertilize itself.
