Description
Vertex Bio-Pellets for phosphate and nitrate reduction
Bio-Pellets are made of biodegradable polymers that can be placed in a fluidized bed filter. The pellets will promote aerobic bacteria growth that consume nitrate and phosphate simultaneously. The bacteria utilize the carbon from the pellets (as a food source) while nitrate and phosphate are removed from the water. This conversion of organic BioPellets (together with inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus) to microbial biomass is called immobilization. In addition, anaerobic layers will develop, resulting in additional denitrification.
The abundance of bacteria will be consumed by filter feeders and other organisms such as sponges and corals or skimmed off.
The biopellets are slowly consumed by the bacteria. Therefore add new granules every 6-12 months, depending on the utilization rate of the aquarium and the water load.
