The new innovative internal protein skimmer from Deltec.
The Deltec ‘i’ DC pump and ‘ix’ AC pump range of protein skimmers include a new emergency overflow system that prevents the canister from overflowing in the event that the sump water level suddenly exceeds the water depth specified by the skimmers or the air intake is blocked. As the water level in the protein skimmer body rises, the air supply to the pump is automatically shut off via the emergency overflow, further reducing the chances of frothing from the cup should the water level in the sump ever rise due to a return pump failure.
The new protien skimmers also include minimum and maximum adjustment level markings on the exhaust lines for easy installation.
The ‘double base’ footplate design allows water to exit the body of the protein skimmer into a cavity in the footplate and into the integrated level adjustment tube and emergency overflow tube. This new design feature means that water leaves the body of the protein skimmer at the lowest point, significantly reducing the chances of micro bubbles escaping from the body, increasing the contact time between air and water and also the noise and turbulence in the body of the protein skimmer is reduced.
Due to the build-up of debris and calcium carbonate build-up, protein skimmer pumps generally need to perform in a harsh environment and require periodic cleaning to maintain peak performance. With this in mind, Deltec has incorporated a quick tool-less pump removal system that allows for easy disassembly, in testing Deltec has been able to remove a pump for cleaning in less than 20 seconds, meaning less time spent on maintaining equipment and more time to enjoy your aquarium.
